Environment, Health & Safety Governance

Interplex is committed to Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) governance to protect our people and our communities. EHS excellence is fundamental to who we are; it is what our leaders expect and our customers demand.

Our Commitment to EHS Excellence

Across our expansive global footprint, we hold ourselves to the same high expectations and standards in the locations we operate in. We assess the EHS impacts of our businesses globally — before, during and after operations.

We are accountable for the EHS performance of the operations, employees, contractors, and visitors. EHS performance is monitored through indicators such as injury rates, environmental violations, risk assessments, global greenhouse gas emissions and water usage.
Interplex is committed to protecting the environment, health and safety of our employees, customers, contractors, visitors and the communities we reside in. We comply with all applicable regulatory requirements while striving to achieve a zero incident workplace.

We have developed a comprehensive action plan to promote, facilitate and maintain 3 major pillars:

  • Environmental Protection
  • A Safe and Healthy Workplace
  • Complete Regulatory Compliance
As responsible corporate citizens, we endeavor to continuously improve our EHS performance and management systems as part of our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Framework.
Interplex’s commitment to environmental performance and improvement extends beyond basic compliance. We believe that we have a corporate responsibility toward mitigating climate change and reducing the impact of climate risk scenarios. In order to establish sustainability objectives that are material to our business we have issued the following Corporate Environmental Policy to guide our efforts over the coming years and which will support our commitments made to the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Pledge for safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH Pledge) and other global initiatives to unify organizations against climate change.

This policy outlines Interplex’s commitment to environmental performance and improvement and sustainability objectives and targets to ensure environmental sustainability across our business locations. Evaluation of our global material environmental aspects focuses on energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, water consumption, and pollution.

Interplex’s Environment, Health and Safety Management Systems (EHSMS) framework is risk-based and designed to suit our continually evolving and dynamic business and operating model. The risk-based approach offers flexibility, within defined boundaries, for alternative solutions to risk management needs. Our EHSMS framework recommends mandatory controls where there is potential for occurrence of high-consequence events, and also presents risk control measures that have proven to be effective and judged to be technically best.

Our Global ESG team maintains a series of documents detailing the key components of the Interplex EHSMS. These documents are designed to protect the environment around us, as well as the health and safety of our employees and the communities in which we operate. They do so by establishing consistent risk thresholds, while making circumstantial provisions for operational flexibility to make decisions to manage risk most effectively.

The diagram below illustrates how Interplex implements, monitors and ensures relevancy of our EHSMS to our business:
Interplex’s EHS Standards support the overarching EHSMS. These standards provide the framework for EHS risk management, incorporating key elements for successful EHS management such as regulatory compliance, risk assessment, clear internal communication, self-audits and senior leadership engagement.

Our EHS Standards cover the following subjects:
  • Interplex EHS Guidelines and Preventative Measures
  • Roles and Responsibilities of EHS Committee
  • EHS Yearly Key Performance Index (KPI)
  • Risk Assessment
  • Workplace Incident Reporting
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Lock Out, Tag Out
  • Machine Guarding

Interplex’s global EHS Audit program provides a means for objective assessment of the adequacy of EHS risk management at the site level. Our EHS audits add value by:

  • Focusing on compliance with Interplex EHS standards and regulatory requirements
  • Providing a comprehensive assessment of the adequacy of site risk management, including EHS and business continuity risks
  • Outlining a summary of site EHS performance to site management, including identification of site management strengths and areas for improvement
  • Engaging site-level EHS professionals to perform audits at other sites, maximizing technical knowledge across the network
  • Encouraging knowledge sharing by identifying best practices and model programs that other sites can replicate appropriately
  • Proposing solutions to close gaps identified during the audit process
Compliance with all environment, health and safety laws and our internal EHS Standards is imperative for our business worldwide. Interplex is committed to maintaining compliance with environmental regulations mandated by local and federal requirements. These include (but are not limited to):
  • Air Emissions
  • Waste Water Discharge
  • Waste Disposal
  • Storm Water Management
  • Chemical Management
  • Fire Protection
We are dedicated to maintaining full EHS compliance; where potential non-compliance is identified, prompt correction is expected and enforced. Internal EHS Standards and routine internal audits assist in maintaining compliance and providing a strong driver for continuous improvement.

We believe in holding our sites to uniform standards, and it is our intent to have all our facilities maintain compliance with International standards such as ISO Certifications.
